TRYOUTS

Adversity VBC, Inc announces the boys tryout dates and times.  Tryouts will be held at 355 Hastings, Buffalo Grove, IL, (formerly known as TSA) beginning on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, continuing on Wednesday, 9-9-09, and Thursday 9-10-09.  Adversity will be moving into its own facility once available.

For the first time, Adversity will provide multiple teams per age group, increasing opportunities for athletes looking to excel in their High School as well the next level of their careers. 

Adversity:

  1. Has consistently fielded the most teams in the Open Division from  the northern and northwestern suburbs (5 last year including two in the 18’s division, one of only two clubs nationwide to do so)
  2. is committed to taking it’s Elite and Select teams to Nationals each year
  3. has consistently assisted area High Schools place their athletes on All Conference, All Area, and All State teams
  4. supported the USA Volleyball High Performance programs

We invite you to join us!

Tryouts will be Tuesday, 9-8-09, Wednesday, 9-09-09, and Thursday, 9-10-09.  There will be a $20 tryout fee, and the forms must be completed, signed, and brought to tryouts.  The forms are listed on the Adversityvbc.org web site on the upper right hand side of the Home page.

Tryout schedule, please note registration will open at 5:30 PM.

6 pm to 8 pm              13& under’s, 14’s, 15’s and 16’s
8 pm to 10 pm            17’s and 18’s

Some cuts may be made by Wednesday, 9-9-08

A first payment is due on the first practice date, 9-13-09.

A Parent meeting will be scheduled after practice begins

USA VOLLEYBALL JUNIOR OLYMPIC AGE DEFINITION
18 and Under Division:
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1991 or
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1990 and a high school student in the twelfth (12th) grade or below during some part of the current academic year
17 and Under Division:
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1992
16 and Under Division:
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1993
15 and Under Division:
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1994
Boys 14 and Under Division:
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1995 or
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1994 (15 years or younger) who shall neither have completed nor are in a grade higher than the eighth grade (8th) grade during the current academic year. (This exception is based on the net height difference of 7’4 1/8” to 7’ 11 5/8” between the 14 and Under Division to the 15 and Under Division.)

13 and Under Division, maybe fielded if interest exists:
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1996
12 and Under Division, may be offered if interest exists:
Players who were born on or after September 1, 1997

Players will be selected to the program no later than September 10, 2008.  Practice begins the following Sunday, 9-13-09 and players will be placed on their preliminary teams by the end of September.  Athletes will be expected to compete in every practice and a team’s roster can be modified by the staff.

The Programs
Elite and Select teams will practice and compete until the Boys High School season begins in early March and will continue again in June.  The summer includes travel in June and early July for the Boys National Championships.

Regional teams will practice as much as every other team but will compete in more local tournaments during the winter season, including at least one Bid Event.  Regional teams complete their season when the High School season begins in early March.  Upgrades for Regional are possible with appropriate Parental support (approval and an additional fee to cover practice time, entries and travel costs).

June, 2009

Larry Wrather, Lake Forest High School has committed to Ball State University to play for Coach Joel Walton. Larry has been with Adversity for 5 years in his second year on the 18 Elite team in the Open Division of the Junior National Championships in July.

Chris Falknor, Buffalo Grove High School, has committed to Carthage College. Chris, in his third season with Adversity has been instrumental in his school team's return to the State tournament.

John Konow, Northside Preparatory High School has committed to Vassar College and will play volleyball.

David Johnson, Glenbrook South High School, has committed to the Milwaukee School of Engineering to play volleyball.

 

May 4, 2009

Joel Lopata, Deerfield High School, has committed to attend Pepperdine University and play Volleyball for legendary coach Marv Dunphy. Joel has been with Adversity for 3 years and will be rejoining his Adversity Elite 18 teammates, coached by Jeremy Desiron, in the Open Division of the Junior National Championships in July. Joel follows several other Adversity middle blockers to Pepperdine, Tom and Mark Hulse, of ETHS.

April 27, 2009

Matt Leske, Highland Park High School, commits attend Ball State University and play Varsity volleyball. Matt has played on the Adversity Select teams for two seasons, coached by Hyunsoo Shin. The Select 18's have qualified for the Open division at the Junior National Championships in July.

Chris Temple, Highland Park High School, has committed to attend D'Youville College in Buffalo New York to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy. Chris will play volleyball for D'Youville. Chris has been with Adversity Elite teams for 4 years and will be rejoining his Adversity Elite 18 teammates, coached by Jeremy Desiron, in the Open Division of the Junior National Championships in July.

April 4, 2009

Adversity Alumni, Ted Schoenfeldt, leads Ohio State past Lewis University 3-1. Ted, who attended Glenbrook North, is a 6'5" opposite who played a significant role versus Lewis with 11 digs (2nd on team) and 19 kills (team leading).

Christian Ahlin, Senior at New Trier High School has committed to attend and play volleyball at the University of the Pacific. Christian has played at Adversity for 4 years and been involved in the USA Volleyball High Performance program for all of those years.

The Chicago Sun Times names 8 Adversity boys to their Top 50 list. 

Chris Ahlin, Chris Falknor, Simon Holstein, John Konow, John Prout, and Larry Wrather play for the 18 Elite team which has qualified for the Open Division of the Boys Junior National Championships in July.

Nick Riley sets for the 18 Select team which is also qualified for the Open Division of the Boys Junior National Championships in July.

C. J. Berg is a member of the 17 Elite team which has qualified for the Open Division of the Boys Junior National Championships in July.

Elias has been with Adversity for 4 years and part of the USA Volleyball High Performance Teams for all four of those years including the December Holiday camps. A setter, Elias will participate with his 18 Elite teammates at the Junior National Championships in July in the Open Division.
